Hi,

My name is Diane Dewbery and I am interested in finding out more about family members who served. You have helped me in the past and I appreciate it. Recently we have come across a medal (Victory) for Joseph Carlisle. I have found his medal card, but it doesn't tell us very much about his service. I am hoping you can help, or guide me to where I can find help.

303505 Cpl Joseph Carlisle?

Thanks for your response. The medal card I found has him as a Private but the number is right - 303505.

We are also trying to find out how he is connected to our family - we have his Victory medal.

Diane,

The Medal Roll (rather than Index Card) shows Joseph served as Cpl with 1/7th Bn.  As his Index Card shows no 1914/15 Star, we know he went overseas after 1915.
It's hard to work out which Joseph Carlisle we are looking at from other records. Even harder to find out a connection with you, when we don't have any of your family records.  Do you have a tree on ancestry?

Hi Tim,

Thanks so much for your efforts. Interesting to see that he fought overseas.
My connection is to Janet Ellis (she has the medal). Our connection is through our Grandfathers, who were brothers.
My Grandfather John Cartwright (9/10/1903 - 9/7/1977 who had a brother Wilfred Cartwright.
Wilfred Cartwright (14/9/1905 - 20/11/75) married Marion Yates.
