3517530 Cpl Edward Hume

I am trying to research 3517530 Cpl Edward Hume.
I have his red book: Regular Army Certificate of Service which shows his date of enlistment as 2 January 1922, his transfer to the Army Reserve on 20 November 1929 and his final discharge on 1 January 1934. I also have a copy of his service papers from the National Archives which confirm all the above and give his date of birth as 30 May 1903 - his death certificate gives his Dob as 3 July 1903.
His Regular Army Certificate of Service came with a group of medals mounted as worn: 1939/45 Star, Africa Star, Italy Star, Defence and War Medals.
However, I cannot find any evidence of any Second World War service anywhere and I am beginning to believe that the medals are not those awarded to Cpl Hume.
However, he may have re-engaged for WWII and his WWII papers are not with his previous service papers.
He appears in the 1939 Register as living in St Pancras while working as a warehouseman.
Can anyone shed any light on this and perhaps suggest lines of research - I have already tried all the online resources.

Perhaps not likely but did he have ww2 service with the RN or RAF? Have managed to find his birth certificate?

I had considered that as a possibility but I'm no good with RAF and Navy records.
I'll have another look.
Being aged 39 on the outbreak of WWII, would he have been liable to call-up at any time?
I have his date and place of birth, what help would a birth certificate be?

I thought about the birth certificate just rule out the possibility of 2 persons of the same name.

He would have been liable to be called up, all males between 18 and 41 were liable.

Unfortunately Edward Hume is a fairly common name.
Assuming the medals are his (quite an assumption!), he probably joined the RAF or possibly the RN.
Linking such a man with his previous service with the Manchester Regiment will probably be difficult but I'll look.
