Pte 45227 John Joseph Bardsley – 21st Bn
John Bardsley was a cotton spinner / labourer with Lami Spinning Co, Hollinwood when he attested in 4th Bn on 09/12/1915. He was called up for training with 4th Bn on 03/11/1916. He disembarked in France, posted to 19th Bn on 10/01/1917 and 21st Bn on 09/02/1917. Seriously wounded by a shell at Bullecourt on 14/05/1917, with face and leg wounds that led to amputation, John was evacuated home on 29/05/1917. John was discharged with a SWB & pension on 17/04/1918. Only one unhelpful WFA card has been found, suggesting no Dependents Pension was issued.
John Bardsley died in Manchester Royal Infirmary – cause unknown, aged 26. He was buried at Failsworth Cemetery on 27/11/1919. The son of Mary Bardsley of 1 Evening Street, Failsworth.
There is only one WFA Card, suggesting no Application for a Dependents pension and cause of death may have been unrelated to service. Need DC to confirm. Remembered here.

John Bardsley died of a cerebral haemorage at Manchester Royal, aged 26. Opticians Assistant. His brother, Sydney, was the informant.
