Researching Private J.Mitchell

Hello All.
I am researching a Private J.Mitchell 1st Bn Manchester Regiment. Pvt Mitchell (No.906) was awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal circa Feb 1917. Wondering if anyone has come across him or the citation for the DCM. London Gazette of 17/02/15 mentions it but does not provide any information on how/why it was awarded.

Morning Colin,
As a brief summary of James Mitchell's service, he had enlisted on 21/03/1906 - a pre-war regular serving with 1st Bn in India.  He embarked for France with the rest of the Bn on 27/08/1914. James was in a wounded list published on 25/12/1914. All overseas service was with 1st Bn and at some stage James was wounded (again). He was discharged as Private, due to wounds to the arms & head, with an Army Pension on 11/08/1916.  He was also diagnosed with TB (not attributable to service allegedly) and lived at Myrtle Cottage, Bradwicks Marsh, Hampton in Arden. Born 1895.

James' LG entry on 17/02/1915 was for the award or mention in Sir John French's Despatches.  The DCM citation was published on 01/04/1915. Both entries relate to action at Neuve Chapelle on 27/11/1914. He also received a 1914 Star, British War and Victory Medals.

The disembarkation date is not correct, the battalion embarked at Karachi on 27th August and sailed for France on the 29th arriving in France on the 27th September.

The 27th August is a clerical error repeated on the 1st Bn 1914 Star medal roll.
