Greetings for Down Under
« on: June 08, 2022, 05:24:58 PM »
G'day all,

Firstly, thanks for a great Website and Forum.

I hope everyone enjoyed The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations?

My name is M.B. 'Mick' Matthews.

I served with The Royal Australian Infantry (WAUR, 11/28 RWAR, 13RRF) for 32 years (1977-2009). The last 6 as a W02.

I've come here seeking help to find the Service Records for my 4 x Great Grandfather, CSGT Edward Hugh Barron who was CSM 2Coy, 63rd Foot. Detached to The Swan River Colony under then CAPT F.C. Irwin arriving in June 1829.

His Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Hugh_Barron) say he enlisted with the 63rd Foot on 8 Jul 1817, aged 20.

Cheers,

Welcome to the forum Mick.
Is the Tree on Ancestry yours?

I can‘t find an enlistment on Ancestry, is there firm evidence that he enlisted into the 63rd ?

Hi Charlie,

He definitely served with the 63rd.

Even says so on his headstone.  ;)

I am not disputing that he served with 63rd, I am questioning if there is evidence that his initial enlistment was into the 63rd or did he enlist into another regiment and transfer to the 63rd.

 Hi Mick and Charlie

Years ago I was given permission by the couple that did the site
Australia's Redcoat Settlers to use their information for the Snippets.

Within the website is a section for Edward Hugh Barron.
He joined the 13th (1st Somersetshire) Regiment.  25 Mar 1818 transferred to
 63rd (West Suffolk) Regiment.

The link to his page is,

 https://redcoat-settlerswa.com/redcoat-index/redcoats-a-f/barron-edward/

It looks like a lot of the info on Wiki came from the Australia's Redcoat Settlers
web site but not all  :)
