Pte 31035 Samuel Charles Kendrick
« on: April 19, 2022, 03:59:29 PM »
Hi Everyone

I am looking for any information on Pte 31035 Samuel Charles Kendrick.  Enlisted 6-10-15  1st garrison battalion Manchester regiment and transferred to Northumberland fusiliers, Pte 26679.

If anyone has any information of his war service that would be a great help, thank you

His surname has been misspelt Kendrich on at least one occasion.

Hi Frank,
It's likely Samuel trained in one of the Reserve or Special Reserve Bns after enlistment and then transferred to 1st GB after a further medical.  It's interesting to see he received a pension for TB following discharge in 1919 with a SWB- and survived another 20 years after.
There's a good summary of the 1st GB service here https://www.tameside.gov.uk/MuseumsandGalleries/Garrison-Battalions-1914-1920.  Quite a few men were transferred to the N'land Fusils, but I don't know when.  You could look up names on the Medal Roll and see if they have pension / service records that may provide more info.
Welcome to the forum.

Hi Tim
Thank you for the information I had no idea about the Reserve or the Garrison Battalions so that all helps to better understand his service.
Regards Frank
