Hi Nige,
The 1/10th Bn War Diary states:-
“Ypres. 9.9.17. Kit inspection by Company Commanders & Voluntary Holy Communion. Battalion moves up to Cambridge Road and took over from the 1/7th Manchester Regiment. Had 3 Casualties.” James Pollitt was the only death on this day.
James was killed in action and buried in Reservoir Cemetery, in the heart of the City. Cambridge Road is between Wieltje and Hooge. As men were generally buried close to where they fell it is likely James Pollitt was killed in the town, prior to the Bn arriving at the front line, probably resulting from German shelling in Ypres.
All a bit of speculation and unverified without a service record.
Welcome to the forum.
