Researching Private James Magraw- my wife's Grandfather who served in France and later Italy. We have his service record from the PRO . He was awarded the Military Medal in December 1917 and we would like to know why. Any help would be much appreciated.

Phill

In December he was in Italy, probably the madal was for his service in France .

Thanks. We know that Private Magraw got his Military medal for service in France, probably at Ypres in October 1917. The award was not posted in the London Gazette until December. We would like to know why the medal was awarded but can find no written evidence at all. We would also like to find a photo of him in his uniform, but  so far have failed. We have tried all known family sources and the local press in Wigan. Any advice on where else we could search would be much appreciated.  If it helps, we now know that Private Magraw served with the 22nd battalion for his time in France. He was a stretcher bearer. Thanks for reading this.

Yes it's hard to find out infos or pictures after more hundred years .
Ps: which town of Italy is written in the service records?

Tnx
