ernest enlisted in the 5th manchesters on 30-9-1916,he was a roll turner at johnson+nephew bradford,manchester,he was allowed to carry on his occupation making barbed wire for the government until early 1918,then he was posted to his battalion at scarboro,he transferred to the RASC on 2-11-18 as pte R/422076 until his discharge on 7-1-19.

Ernest received a pension of 5/6 for 13 weeks. No note of condition.
