Sgt 3089 John Barker – 11th & 18th Bns

John Baker was a Boer War veteran and long served pensioner from 1st & 3rd Bn (1885-1903) when he re-enlisted in 4th Bn on 16/09/1914, aged 46.  He was immediately promoted to Sgt and posted to 11th Bn on 25/09/1914, prior to 18th Bn on 25/021915.  Sgt Baker was discharged from 25th Bn as no longer required at home and too old for overseas duty on 30/07/1915.
John Barker died from cancer mediastinum asthma on 20/04/1920, aged 51. The husband of Catherine Barker of 17 Halton Gardens, Newark, Notts.  A widows pension was refused.  He was buried in Notts on 24/04/1920.
