Pte 44552 John Robert Wilcock – 12th Bn

John Wilcock was a plumber when he attested at Rawtenstall under the Derby Scheme on 11/12/1915. He was mobilised for duty  on 29/02/1917 and joined 3rd Bn East Lancs ‘24774’ on 02/03/1916.  John joined the BEF at 30th IBD with 2nd East Lances on 11/07/1016. Initially attached on 18/07/1916, John was transferred to 12th Manchesters on 04/11/1916. John was admitted to 1st Canadian Gen Hosp pon 12/12/1916 John was evacuated on HS Dunluce and returned home on 02/01/1917. He was posted to Depot and then 3rd Bn.  Hospitalised with Pulmonary TB John left 3rd Northern General Hospital, Sheffield on 02/10/1917 and discharged unfit from 3rd Bn at Cleethopres on 10/10/1917.  He was resident with his sister, Alice, at 18 Daisy Hill, Rawtenstall and received a SWB and pension for TB of the Lung, originating in France Xmas 1916 and resulting from infection during service. Also noted as attributed.  A 12/09/1918 review found 80% incapacity.
John Wilcock died on 28/03/1920, aged 34. He was buried at Rawtenstall Cemetery on 31/03/1920. Next of kin noted as John’s three sisters, Sarah, Alice and Elizabeth. The son of the late John and Elizabeth Wilcock of Rawtenstall.

John Wilcock died from pulmonary TB at 18 Daisy Hill, Rawtenstall.  His sisterm Alice Molloy was the informant, resident at the same address.  Plumber journeyman. Army Pensioner.
