Pte 14580 Fred Cooke – 24th Bn

Fred Cooke was a joiner when he enlisted in 24th (Oldham Comrades) Bn on 04/12/1914.  He joined the BEF with 24th Bn on 08/11/1915 and returned home to Depot on 31/03/1916.  Fred was posted to 71st Training Reserve Bn on 15/11/1916, then transferred to the Labour Corps in 1917 where he received various Home postings and was appointed L/Cpl in December 1917. Fred was demobilised on 28/03/1919. He received a pension for emphysema attributed to service.
Fred died from Dropsy on 15/03/1920. Husband of the late Sarah Jane Cooke. Six children.
