Newbie to the forum, I am researching my Great uncle 2rd Lt Stanley Gregory 10539 of the 1st/10th Battalion.
What Company he was in and the location when killed 8/06/1918 possibly near Hebuterne. This is a man that started out as private and made it to corporal then commissioned.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
2/Lt Gregory was killed by artillery fire near La Signy Farm, together with 7 other soldiers of C Company.

Many thanks Charlie, I found the other men on the burial form for Bertrancourt you have confirmed my suspicion that it was probably a shelling. Google Earth has come in handy as you can go right up to the farm as it stands now, if also now have the trench map for that location Hubuterne 57dNe  in Topography ofArmageddon by Peter Chassaud.

he was a platoon commander in C.coy,he and his men were on the left sector of C.coy when they were killed at 2.30am,9 men were also wounded, they had earlier relieved the 10th coy of the 2nd otago regt at 11.55pm.

do you know he had been wounded with the 18th manchesters in 1916

Many thanks, I've found him on another tread by Kingo in the 18th Service Battalion C company 12 Platoon as a Private no date as to when that was though.
Your info is starting to put meat to the bones of what I know so far, many thanks again
Do you know the location of when he was wounded or his rank at that time?

although he gave his occupation as a clerk on enlistment,i think he still worked for his father and brother sydney as a painter, the pals battalions advertised for men from the clerks+warehousemen and i think he may have fibbed that he was a clerk to get in,which he didnt need to.

Thanks for that info Mack. I think you could be correct about his occupation, as he was certainly shown in the 1911 census as a House Painter (same as his brother and father a Decorator)
This has been quite a spooky trail as we only started looking this evening,  I served with the 3rd Battalion of the Auckland and Northland regiment and worked closely with the Otago boys and visited Hebuterne back in 1993 not knowing he was killed so close to were we walked on a battlefield tour.
