A former pupil is trying to find out information about the circumstances in which his great-grandfather Private Edward Wells of 8th Manchesters died on Malta on 10/1/44. Nothing seems to be known in the family and a check of the CWGC database and the Roll of Honour doesn't offer any clues.
Any help much appreciated.

That's part of the mystery! He was 43 and is buried in Pembroke Cemetery.

I assume that he was left in hospital when the battalion moved on and died there, either through natural causes or as the result of wounds caused by the earlier bombing of the island.

Hi Mark

Is the family in the process of obtaining his service record?
