Cpl 113 / 350012 Frank Shaw – 9th Bn

Tim Bell

Frank Shaw enlisted in 9th Bn on 06/04/1908.  Records indicate he had earlier enlisted – presumably Volunteers- on 12/04/1901.
Frank embarked for Eqgypt with 9th Bn on 10/09/1914 and landed at Gallipoli on 09/05/1915.  Frank  was  wounded on 23/06/1915 and promoted Cpl for gallantry in the field on 08/08/1915.  He went on to serve in France from 11/03/1917 to 30/08/1917.
Frank was discharged unfit on 01/01/1918. He received a pension for Sciatica resulting from active service.  He was admitted for treatment in a Sanatorium from 23/05/1918 with TB that was accepted as being due to service in the War. 
Frank died in Blackburn, from TB that was due to and contracted or commencing on active service on 29/09/1918, aged 42.
The husband of Martha Jane Shaw of 74 North Street, Ashton u Lyne. Two children.

Frank Shaw died from pul TB at Bull Hill Sanatorium, Darwen. A stone mason.
