Pte 2122 William (James/Jacob) Willing - 1/6th Bn

Tim Bell

William Willing had been a shipping clerk when he enlisted in 6h Bn on 04/08/1914 and embodied the next day. He embarked for Egypt from Southampton and the Dardanelles from Alexandria on 08/05/1916. William was wounded at Gallipoli on 04/06/1915 and evacuated home on 17/09/1915.
William was discharged unfit from C Coy, 1/16th Bn at Codford, Wilts on 10/03/1916. He reccieved a pension for a shrapnel wound to his right shoulder and right leg and started employment as an accountant in the Bank of British West Africa.
William died from influenza and pneumonia at Zaria, Northern Nigeria on 20/10/1018, aged 27.
The son of Edward / Elias Samuel and the late Laura Frances Willing of Mayfield Park Road, Timperley.
