Many thanks for being allowed to join. I have a few connections to the Manchester Regt. Pte William Albert Podmore 3533005 (1st Bn) is one of two of my relatives who is laid to rest with his comrades in Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery. William was from Stockport and was only 24 when he died on 4 August 1943 at Sonkrai. A few years ago I arranged for wreaths to be sent to both my relatives' graves via the RBL/CWGC.

Looking through some old family documents I also found a photo and newspaper clipping of a Manchester killed in WW1. I think he was a friend of my grandmother. Lt Bouskill was killed at the third Battle of Ypres on 4/10/1917 and served with the 21st Bn Manchester Regt.

My great grandfather was in the TA Manchesters in the 1890s and I found a clip of him on Youtube marching with the Stockport Home Guard in 1941.

I live in London and a few years ago my son had to do a project on the local war memorial - he picked a name at random (Pte William Wood) and then did some research. It turned out that Pte Wood he served in the 2nd Bn Manchester  Regt and was killed on 5/11/1918.  Pte Wood was in the same Bn as Wilfred Owen (who was 5th Bn attached to the 2nd) and killed in the same action. I then found out that not only was Pte Wood buried in the same cemetery but he was buried in the same row as Lt Owen.

Hi Justin
Welcome to the site and thank you for the photographs, the photo you have of Edward
Bouskill, shows a soldier with, what looks like the Cap Badge of the West Yorkshire Regiment ( Prince of Wales Own). I've done a check for Edward serving in this Regiment or Clifford and at this moment cannot find anything to see it's either of these two.

The the photograph shows a soldier in the uniform of the British Army from the period late 1890s until the WW1, I feel Edward may have been too young for this photo ( Born 1996-1917).

I've also checked to see if a William Podmore served in this Regiment, at this moment cannot find him in this Regiment.

Hi

I've attached the newspaper clipping of Lt Bouskill that was in some old family docs. The photo of the soldier was in a collection of old family photos. I assumed it was the same person, however, now I'm not so sure. It means I've got more research to do into another relative.
