Hello. Many thanks for allowing me to join the forum.
I'm currently researching my Great Grandfather James Proffitt 3521194.
He joined 2 battaltion in 1920s and served in Burma through to being evacuated from Dunkirk in 1940. According to my grandmother, he never went back into combat, spending the rest of the war training new soldiers. He would have been 38 in 1940, presumably his age and experience warranted his being transfered. He would never speak about his experiences, hence my vagueness in dates. He retired from the army as Warrant Officer II.
We do have some wonderful photos and postcards from India, and some photographs from 1939/1940, presumably in France. I shall upload them when I get chance. Any information would be gratefully received.

Not much to add but I can see James 2st received the General Service Medal with Clasp for Burma 1930-32 at Khartoum in 1933,  He then received the Clasp for the North West Frontier 1937-39.

Many thanks for you reply. I've spoken to my grandmother who has given me lots of his service photographs etc. I also have his record of service which is as follows
Manchester 25/4/22 - 3/7/40
Loyals 4/7/40 - 14/11/41
RA 15/11/41 - 5/11/41
RAOC 9/11/44 - 21/9/45

The date of his transfer to the Loyals is the same date as the raising of War Service battalions on 4th July 1940. My great grandfather was from Widnes so the logic follows. My grandmother remembers spending some of the war in Wales and Redcar, this ties in to where the 7th Batallion Loyals were stationed.  I suppose the next step will be to get his service records.

He certainly was in D Coy 2nd Manchesters as I have a photograph of him and his squad winning a Lewis Gun Competition in Burma 1928 although I'm at a loss as to which company his was with for the remainder of his service

I have photographs of him and various other which I would like to share but I'll have to try to render the file size to the allowable maximum.
