WW1 Grandfather Military History

Hello

  I'm trying to trace My Grandfathers Military History in the Manchester Regiment, possibly the 5th- his details are John William Shambley Born approx 1892 - Lived at 135 Chestnut Road, Wigan, Whelley, Died 1963 Sept 06 - Miner I have a vague Memory of Him, possible injured remember Aunties mentioning Winick Hospital with Head injury. Any Help or advice to confirm his Service Number / Regiment great appreciated.

As a starter, Private John William Shambley served with the following:

Manchester Regiment - Private 1627
Royal Warwickshire Regiment - Private 202394
Lancashire Fusiliers - 238105

Born Ince near Wigan 1892
Resided 75 Platt Lane, Ince then 118 Platt Lane.
Wife Elizabeth Ellen
Occupation: Coal miner
Previous military service 16/12/08 to 15/12/12 (presumably with the 5th Battalion (Territorial Force), Manchester Regiment)
Enlisted into 5th Battalion (Territorial Force) at Wigan 22/5/13, aged 21
Aldershot 1913
Carnavon 1914
Embodied 5/8/14 (Private 1627)
Home service 5/8/14 to 9/9/14
Overseas 10/9/14 to 2/4/15
Home 3/4/15 to 17/5/15
Theatre of War served: Egypt (from 25/9/14)
Discharged medically unfit 17/5/15

Later he served with the 2nd/5th Royal Warwickshire Regiment as Private 202394, and 1st/5th Lancashire Fusiliers as Private 238105 (no details found). He must have re-enlisted or been called up later in the war
Medal entitlement: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal

john,william shambley went to egypt with the 1/5th manchesters on 9-9-14,he was invalided home on 2-4-1915,he was later discharged on 15-5-15 as medically unfit
he appeared in a wounded list 0n 18-11-16
miner for crompton and shawcross
resided 118 platt lane,wigan,prevoius address 75 platt lane
wife,elizabeth,ellen shambley[nee rylance]married at st.catherines church,wigan 23-12-1911
died whelley hospital
buried gidlow cemetery,wigan.grave details.15.486.CE

his brother was pte 1780 alfred shambley
1/5th manchesters
miner at garswood hall colliery
enlisted 29-1-14
resided 68 anderton st,wigan
discharged unfit 31-3-15
alfred emigrated to australia on 22-10-1926
died NSW,australia june 1986 aged 93

another brother,thomas,died in york military hospital on 10th june 1925
buried wigan ceemetery.grave details.R.177.CE

Hello Guys Thank you very much for your information, I congratulate you all, I'll always remember my Grandfather around mid 1950 / 60's spitting into the fire & the reaction of the flames bursting into life from the coal dust ! I belive he might have spent some time in Winick Hospital.
