Hallo , my name is Melody.  I was made aware of this Forum by a member in a FB Group I am in - The Kings & Manchester  Regimental Assoziation Veterans.  My father, Frank Ross, was in the British Army for 26 years.  Laterhe went on to RASC and RAOC.  From 1946 to 1957 he was a bandsman in the MR.  I have kept quite a few things from his Service including his Certificate of Service.  The Group member suggested you may be able to assist me in finding out where dad was actually stationed; HOME & BAOR do not give me much to go on.  I know where he was from 1956 onward, as that is when I was born.   Thank you.

Welcome Melody
Someone will be along with more information than me. I can tell you that the 1st Battalion were in Wuppertal then Berlin, not sure of the exact dates but I was there with my parents in 1948 to I think 1950. In 1951 the Battalion went to Malaya, they were spread out over several locations. My father had transferred to the RAPC but had stayed with the Battalion. We lived in Minden Barracks Glugor Penang where the university is located now.
Have a look at the photographic section there are quite a few photos from both countries. Look at Photos from Germany and Far East Photos, you may also find something in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Battalion ones: http://themanchesters.org/forum/index.php?board=10.0

Thanks Cliff - my dad was in Penang from May 1951 until August 1952.  I managed to make the photo from Wuppertal smaller, so will see if it works now.  His Service number was 3537438.  When he retired in April 1972, his rank was WOII.

Your welcome Melody.
Roy Hughes tells me that the Facebook Group you are in have some great photos of the band, that would fit well in the Forum, can you upload them please.
I had a look at the FB Group and noticed the Spandau Guard Change photo, it looks like the Russians/Americans change over. There is an American/Manchester's changeover in the photos from Germany section. It's possible they followed each other.
