My name is Darren Prickett and I am researching an ancestor - Lt Ernest Herod Wheatley, who served with the 8th Manchesters during WWI. I would like to thank the admins for this forum for accepting my application to join.
I have put together a bit of information about Ernest so far from various sources but would like to find out more about his service. I would also like to find an image of him if possible. The information I have so far is listed below.
Ernest enlisted in Artists Rifles in September 1916 (regimental number 762396). On 26/04/17 he obtained a commission as a 2/Lt with 8th Bn, Manchester Regiment. On 22/06/17 he proceeded overseas to France. On 30/08/17 he was wounded (record for No.39 Gas Clearing Station gives admission date of 16/08/17 - and 2/8 Manchester diary confirms his gassing that day while working with RE 8 Tunnelling Coy). On 3/1/18 he was admitted to hospital with Neurasthenia, at which time his unit was given as 2/8 Manchesters. On 26/10/18 he was promoted from 2/Lt to Lt. On 17/02/21 he died of pneumonia. At the time of his death his occupation was listed as bank clerk, of Nottingham Road, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire.

I have to say that your thorough research is excellent and you spotted a War Diary entry that I'd missed.  This confirms Lt Wheatley was serving in 2/8th Bttn when he was gassed.
