mentioned for leading a half company after Lt woodhouse was wounded on 9th november 1900 while escorting a column from standerton to vrede,also for general good service.
appointed to the permanent staff,CSM+drill instructor,1st VB manchester regt[5th manchesters] 28-5-1904 till 1-7-1913
married mary boardman at middleton parish church on 24-10-1906.
288 wigan rd,bolton
awarded LSGC medal 1910.
retired on 1-7-1913 after 22yrs service

rejoined his old regt on 15-9-1914 as 3076 roderick,john mckenzie
served on home service with the 4th battalion
his wife mary died at bolton on 28-9-1917
transferred to army reserve on 28-3-1919 with 30% disability pension for Myocarditis Liver Complaint aggravated by service
sgt major mckenzie died at his home at 45 delph st,wigan on 24-11-1919,buried wigan cemetery

Cause of death was "natural causes, probably heart failure". I expect this will be too vague to be any good.
