Hello, I am one of the sons of said Robert Hinsley. He was conscripted into the Manchester's 1952? and served in Malaya for his two years. My question is, I'm afraid tinged with sadness. My father died a few days ago, and I was wondering if it is possible for a representative of the regiment to be present at his funeral? or a wreath made in regimental colours (We would obviously pay for this). Dates are not known yet, but would be in Manchester. Is there a current army regiment that was once affiliated to the M'cr's? Up until a few years ago he was involved with his old regiment, going to the old barracks, and I think serving as a welfare officer, and attending/taking part in "The Turning of The Leaves" in the Cathedral. Sad times ahead. Any help would be appreciated. Regards

Hello Colin
Welcome to the Forum, sorry it's at such a sad time for you.

My father was in Malaya although he had transferred from the Manchester's to the RAPC and I was with him in 1952- 54.
Before I try to answer your questions you may like to look at the Forums photographic section, there are several photos in it from that period in Malaya.

Try the British Legion for your wreath, they should have the Manchester's Fleur de Lys badge or their successor Regiment's.

I'm not sure of the current situation regarding their successor but I am sure someone will be along shortly to answer. The Regiment amalgamated with the King's Liverpool Regiment and became the King's Regiment on 1st September 1958.

You may like to try to get hold of a copy of Robert Bonner's book "Jungle Bashers" (It's out of print). ISBN 1873907125

Many thanks for your kind thoughts and quick replies. Also thank you for the information, which I will follow up on. My Dad would love to know the regiment and or association could contribute to his final parade. I will pass on your good wishes to the rest of the family. Obviously with the current situation, funerals are subject to restrictions on numbers allowed to attend, but we would love to have some regimental input. In what form, is not known yet, no any dates.
If its OK with the moderator / webmaster I could keep people informed via this forum. Regards
Hinsley Family.
