Hello forum members  :) many thanks for my addition to the forum, my name is Frank, and I look forward to learning and hopefully contributing to discussions.

At the moment I am trying to find a little information on a soldier by the name of:
Arthur Nind 44275 who was awarded the Military Medal whilst serving with the Manchester Regiment in, I assume, 1917.

I don't know his place of birth but it may have been Billingshurst, I have him in the Edinburgh Gazette dated 12-3-1917 and I also have him in the London edition dated 12 March 1917.

Other information I have is his Medal index Card which shows he also served in the Border Regiment 36316 and his Medal Rolls copy which confirms all of this, I also have a copy of the Medal Index Card for the award of the Military Medal.

There is also a piece in West Sussex Records on line which states he also served with the 3rd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment until the end of 1916, this is where I got the information from regarding him coming from Billingshurst.

I am really looking to try to find out how and what action he took part in to be awarded the MM, any help or a pointer to the war diary would be greatly appreciated, try as I have over the last few days I cannot find it.

Best regards
Frank.

Hello Frank and welcome to the forum.
The War Diary for the 22nd Bn is in multiple parts which can all be downloaded for free from the NA
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_q=22+manchester&discoveryCustomSearch=true&_cr1=WO+95&_col=200&_hb=tna

I believe the Gazette date was about three months after the action so it may be worth while looking at December 1916 if there isn't anything in the diary for 1917.

Hi Frank,
Ptes 44276 Alfred Pannell & 44278 Bernard John Paine were killed in action and died of wounds on 11 & 12 January 1917.  Both previously served with the R Sussex Regt. G/9179 & G/9120 .
I imagine Arthur Nind was part of the same draft arriving with 22nd Bttn in June - October 1916.  He hadn't served overseas with the R Sussex. There are 3 Silver War Badges relating to men with similar numbers enlisting in late 1915, so it's possible he was a Derby Scheme recruit. Depending his date of birth, it's possible Arthur was conscripted in the same year. There's a R Sussex SWB in the number range that all enlisted in 12/1915.
I agree with Charlie's estimation for the  action relating to the MM award.
Welcome.
Tim
