Thank you so much for getting back to me but unfortunately I only have his medal and no more information to hand.

His brother Ronnie Wallwork (my Dad) was younger than John and he was a PT Instructor in the army (Service no. 2303651) between 1954 - 1956

I have just started looking into my family history and would love to hear from anyone that knew them. Once again many thanks for taking time to respond to me, I am really grateful.
Kind regards
Julie Rose (nee Wallwork)

Julie, can you double check the service number there may be one number too many in it.
Also is it a General Service Medal with a Malaya clasp like the one attached or do you know he was in Malaya from another source?
Your fathers Service Number is from the Royal Signals.

Hi Cliff
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. The medal I have is exactly the same as in your picture. I have checked and double checked the detail on the side and the number is definitely 2273 9552.  Unfortunately the medal is all the information I have at the moment.

Also thank you for the information regarding my dad's regiment. I am really new to this so not up to speed with the different regiments, battalions etc. I do find it really interesting and during my family history search I hope to find a few more or my relatives that served our Country.

with many thanks & kindest regards
Julie

The number has the right number of digits and was not issued to a Regiment at the time of his enlistment in 1952, but sequentially to the Army as a whole.

Julie, see if you can get hold of a copy of Jungle Bashers " A British Infantry Battalion in the Malayan Emergency 1951 - 1954.  it is by Robert Bonner who is a member of this Forum and served with the 1st Battalion The Manchester Regiment in Malaya. The ISBN number is 1873907125. You may be able to find a second hand copy or order it to borrow from your local library.

Also have a look at the photos here: http://themanchesters.org/forum/index.php?topic=627.0

You could also apply for his Service Record but will need his next of kin's permission or get them to do it. See:
