10723 Private Fred Taft. Son of Frederick D and Mary E Taft of 15 Brunswick Street, Chorlton-on-Medlock. One of four brothers serving. Employed at Crossley Motors Openshaw.

L/Cpl 10115 john,anderson Frankish also died at the 21st CCS,from wounds in the abdomen+legs on 2nd july 1916,pte 11280 walter mingham who was wounded in the legs and shoulder,died in 2nd general hospital at Abbeville on 12th july 1916.

fred was the son of herbert,ellis taft and martha taft[nee swindells]his father was a watchmaker and jeweller,fred and three of his brothers worked for their father,two brothers alfred+cyril served with the REs,the other two,philip+leslie served with the manchesters,fred was the only one who never returned home,he was the youngest of the 5 brothers and its thought that his mother died from complications shortly after his birth,he was sent to live with his grandmother annie in blackpool

pte 10294 fred wood was wounded in the right thigh,he and L/Cpl Frankish both worked at Lloyds packing warehouse,both were B.coy machine gunners,fred didn't survive the war either,he was killed in action on 19th September 1917,lived at 49 florin st,pendleton.


pte 10276 john Rupert farrelly,was also one of B coys machine gunners,wounded in leg,back and right shoulder,he died of pneumonia at stendal military hospital on 25-6-18 whilst a POW.lived at 4 bleackley st,whitefield
