2nd Lieutenant W Butler : Manchester Regiment

I suspect that this officer served in the 2nd battalion.   Clearly, he was made a POW at some time during hostilities, for there is a record that he was repatriated to the UK on the 2nd January 1919.
Is anything further known regarding Lt. Butler's service?    PhilipG.

2/Lt Butler didn't apply for his medals which seems rather strange for what I presume to be a pre war regular. His 1914 Star was scrapped in 1927.
