Herbert Massey was a carter /carrier when he enlisted & embodied in 8th Bn at Ardwick on 29/04/1915.
Herbert served at home until he was discharged unfit on 20/10/1915. A Medical Board on 08/05/1917 found Herbert had pulmonary TB that originated at Southport after a route march as a result of ordinary military service due to cold, wet and exposure. Subsequent notes from 05/06/1917 indicate aggravation rather than causation. Herbert had then been admitted to Baguley Sanatorium from which he was discharged on 21/11/1917. A Medical Board on 02/11/1918 found 100% disability.
Herbert died from an unspecified disease on 15/12/1918, aged 25. He is buried in Phillips Park, plot G.515. The son of Maria Massey of 108 Blackfriars Road, Salford.
