Pte 3885 Herbert Massey - 3/8th Bn

Herbert Massey was a carter /carrier when he enlisted & embodied in 8th Bn at Ardwick on 29/04/1915.
Herbert served at home until he was discharged unfit on 20/10/1915. A Medical Board on 08/05/1917 found Herbert had pulmonary TB that originated at Southport after a route march as a result of ordinary military service due to cold, wet and exposure.  Subsequent notes from 05/06/1917 indicate aggravation rather than causation. Herbert had then been admitted to Baguley Sanatorium from which he was discharged on 21/11/1917. A Medical Board on 02/11/1918 found 100% disability.
Herbert died from an unspecified disease on 15/12/1918, aged 25.  He is buried in Phillips Park, plot G.515.  The son of Maria Massey of 108 Blackfriars Road, Salford.

Herbert Massey died from pulmonary TB and meningitis at his mother's home, 13 Wheathill Road, Salford.  His mother was present.

Herbert Massey's commemoration in the UKBOR was accepted today.  In due course his burial at Phillips Park should be accepted as a War Grave.  I don't know if there is a private memorial on the plot.
