Pte 13317 John Thomas Siderfin – 11th Bn
John Siderfin had been a labourer when he enlisted at Ashton on 26/10/1914. He was posted to 11th Bn on 04/11/1914 and discharged inefficient on 17/04/1915.  John received a pension for early pulmonary TB “Caused by Service”.
John Siderfin died at Withington Workhouse on 06/09/1915, aged 33. Cause of death was Phthisis accelerated by injuries due to fall.  The Coroner returned an open verdict in an Inquest on 08/09/1915. As the principal cause of death was TB due to service commemoration appears positive.
Son of the late Joseph and Mary Siderfin of 6 Walter Street, Ancoats.  The Workhouse Death Register indicates Joseph was buried by friends at Moston.  This probably refers to St Joseph’s RC Cemetery. Thomas was Catholic.

Burial confirmed at St Joseph's. St Patrick's section 531. Public grave.

I think we now 17 have new commemorations in hand at St Joseph's.

John Siderfin's commemoration in the UKBOR was accepted today.  In due course his burial at St Joseph's Moston should be accepted as a War Grave.  As this is a common grave with no inscription, a special memorial or screen wall entry may be adopted.
