Col Sgt 3093 Patrick Charles Shipley

Patrick Shipley enlisted for Home Service in 4th Bttn on 17/9/1914.  He was a 47 year old Manager of the Palatine Club in Pendleton, with Time Expired Service as a Sgt Major in the Regiment.  Patrick had been born in Lucknow, India and probably had family connections with the Army.  He served in the Depot as a Col Sgt until he was posted as Coy Col Sgt in 14th Bttn on 7/1/1915.  He was later transferred to 3rd Bttn on 31/3/1915.
Patrick was discharged unfit from 3rd Bttn on 4/6/1915. He died from Phthisis on 25/12/1915, aged 54.  No records not aggravation or attributable. Reg Salford 8d/161. Roman Catholic.
Widow Katherine and adopted daughter Winifred Hill received a Pension at the Palatine Club, Broad St, Pendleton. Children Charles John & Annie.
Charles served in the ASC, MT/033838 from 18/1/1915. He was discharged with Rheumatism and cough aggravated by service on 31/12/1915 and died on 10/81918, aged 30. Pension records state his death was "...regarded as due to disease contracted or commencing on active service."  The Pension Card states he died from Double Lobar Pneumonia aggravated by active service. Widow Florence received a Pension at 47 Lower Arrow St, Lower Broughton. Reg Salford Q3 1918 8d/122.
