Pte 20874 James Dalglish Crewe

Pte 20874 James Dalglish Crewe
Pte Crewe was a Painter when he enlisted on 19/1/1915. He had previously served in the Grenadier Guards (1894-1910), including the Boer War, 2 Clasps
Discharged unfit from No 2 Supernumerary Coy of 2/8th Bttn at Bute Docks, Cardiff, on 7/1/1916, James received a pension for Chronic Bronchitis aggravated by cold and exposure in service.
James died from TB of the lungs contracted on active service on 5/5/1916, aged 45.   There is no mention of TB in the Pension Record. Buried Southern Cemetery S.698.
Widow Lilian and 4 children received a pension at 126 Higher Cambridge St, C on M.

This another case that I will ask IFCP to review before ordering the DC. The Pension card says James Dalglish died from TB contracted on active service.  The Pension Record only mentions Bronchitis for Disability Pension, so he may have contracted TB after discharge and a civilian Doctor may have been supportive with the family, stating contracted.

In the absence of firm evidence of TB contracted during mobilised service this case has to remain on hold.  There is also no evidence James had embodied for overseas duty.

James Crewe died from TB commencing in service at 126 Higher Cambridge Street, aged 45. Widow, Lily, was present. Window cleaner.
