Cpl 2784 / 50267 Joseph Woodall
Sgt Woodward was a Collier at Blundell Colliery, Pemberton, when he enlisted in 3rd Bttn,2784,  at Wigan on 18/8/1914.  Joseph had previously served (1897-1909) in 1st Bttn, 5108,  including the Boer War (1899-1903) and Singapore, when he had contracted Malaria.  Promoted to L/Sgt on 11/11/1914, Joseph was posted overseas to MEF with 11th Bttn on 14/9/1915.  He returned Home on 18/4/1916 and was posted to 4th, then 3rd Bttns.
Joseph was transferred to Class W Reserve on 29/7/1916, in order to return to Yarwood Hall Coliery, Brynn. He attested again (in error it seems) on 28/3/1917, 50267, and posted to 3rd Bttn as Pte on 3/4/1917.
Promoted to Cpl on 22/3/1918, Joseph was discharged unfit with SWB and pension on 18/4/1918. He had Synovitis, originally from an old football injury.
Grimsby Police Charged Joseph for Murder on 14/3/1919.
Soldiers Effects indicates Joseph died prior to 9/12/1919.
Widow Ruth and 5 children lived at 448 Warrington Rd, Goose Green, Wigan.
