Pte 18495 Joseph Patrick Courtney
Pte Courtney had been a Journeyman Coal or Coach Trimmer when he enlisted in 20th Bttn on 27/5/1915. He served at home and was transferred to 26th Bttn on 13/8/1915; 1st Garrison Bttn (GB) on 11/10/1916 and 2nd GB on 8/1/1916.
Discharged unfit from 2nd GB at Prescot on 14/4/1916, Patrick had Asthma & Chronic Bronchitis aggravated by exposure. The Medical Report noted suspected TB.
Joseph died in Salford Union Infirmary, Pendleton from Bronchitis & Emphysema & Pulmonary Congestion with Cardiac Muscle Failure on 6/6/1916, aged 31.  Aggravation was admitted on Pension cards. Reg Salford Q2 1916 8d/54.
Widow Elizabeth and 4 children under 16 received a pension at 5 Fildes St, Hightown, Salford. Son of Michael.
DC confirms cause of death. IFCP advised.

Buried at Moston (St. Joseph's) Roman Catholic Cemetery on 10/6/1916. St Joseph's Section Plot 569.

No headstone could be found on Joseph Courtney's plot. CWGC headstone with family consent, or alternative commemoration.
