A/Sgt 3100 Henry Edward Holt

Henry Holt  had been a Stoker when he enlisted in 4th Bttn on 19/9/1914.  Henry had 16 yrs previous service with the 1st Leics R, 3569, including the Boer War, 11/10/1892- 13/10/1908. He was promoted Cpl on 19/9/1914 and served overseas with 2nd Bttn, joining the BEF on 18/4/1915.  He was later promoted to A/Sgt on 14/5/1915 and wounded in the Head & R Eye at Ypres on 19/6/1915. Henry was evacuated home on 17/7/1915.
Henry was discharged unfit on 4/4/1916 with a Pension for the wounds & loss of the R eye.
Henry died from Shrapnel Wounds to his eye and Meningitis commencing on Active Service in 18/3/1917, aged 42. DC required to see if cause of death states wounds, to show attributable. Buried Denton, Christ Church, 22/3/1917. Reg Ashton Q1 1917 8d/756.
Pension to Widow Sarah Jane at 94 Seymour St, Denton. Medals returned.

DC confirms cause of death as Shrapnel Wounds to the Eye and Meningites.  Henry Holt died in the "District Infirmary".
