Pte 28132 William Robert Clegg

Pte Clegg  had been a Cotton Blowing Room Hand when enlisted in the 24th (Oldham Comrades) Bttn, at Heaton Park,  on 21/8/1915.  William was a Boer War veteran, having served twelve years in 6th VB.  He was posted to 27th (Reserve) Bttn on 9/11/1915.
William was discharges sick from 27th Bttn, with SWB on 7/4/1916.
William died from Mitral Heart Disease, aggravated by Active Service on 25/10/1917, aged 36. Reg Oldham Q4 1917 8d/638.
Widow Sarah and four children (Born 1906 &1908) lived at 4 Back Scott Street, Oldham and later moved to 11 Carthage Street, where William died. Pension awarded.

DC confirms cause of death Burial needed.

William Clegg was buried at Oldham Chadderton Cemetery on 31/10/1917. Unconsecrated Plot B8.22.

We need to see if there is a headstone on William Clegg's plot at Chadderton. Then review any inscription.
