Pte 5920 James Murphy

Tim Bell

Pte Murphy had been a Carter when he enlisted on 21/9/1914.  He served with 13th Bttn with BEF from 7/9/1915 and later at Salonika from 28/10/1915. He was posted home sick  on 10/6/1916.
James was discharged unfit on 18/8/1916, aged 36y 9m. He received a pension for Epithelioma of tongue, not att or agg to service but commencing in Malta April 1916.
James died of disease on 3/7/1918.

The DC confirms James Murphy died from cancer of the tongue, aged 48.  He is buried at Philips Park plot H6.

James Murphy was approved for commemoration today.

James Murphy's burial has been confirmed at Philips Park. The specific plot location has not been identified and James will have a Special Memorial.  As there is already a screen wall, I don't quite know what this may mean.
