Pte 906 Michael Flanagan – 1st Bn
Soldiers Effects states that Michael Flanagan died at Neuve Chapelle on 11/03/1915.  Michael had embarked for the BEF on 09/11/1914 and the Star Roll states Deceased.  The MICs states Died or Deceased.  The death is corroborated in the Manchester Courier of 15/07/1915, which includes in the Casualty List as Died of Wounds (previously reported wounded).
A number of military records include the number prefix '3/906', as evidence that Michael had been a pre-war member of the 3rd (Special Reserve) Bn.  This would also explain his later arrival on the Western Front, compared with the main body of 1st Bn which arrived in September 1914.  Based on the number sequence, he had probably enlisted in Spring 1906.
Michael's Effect went to his widow, Agnes, who also received a pension for herself and three children at 10 Bentley Street, Oldham Road.  Agnes later remarried Arthur Gee of the ASC.
If accepted, Michael's name will be inscribed on an Addenda Panel of the Le Touret Memorial
BWM / VM Roll
Possible Marriage

Michael Flanagan's commemoration has been moved to the Le Touret Memorial.  If anyone is passing it would be good to see if the 4 new Manchester Regiment names have been inscribed on the Addenda Panels.
