on 7th February,george our fellow moderator and forum friend sadly passed away,he contributed a great deal to this period in the regiments history,many people have found answers to their questions about their fathers,grandfathers and family members who served with the manchesters during these times,a lot of relatives of georges old comrades have posted a great deal of photos or information that rekindled his memories and had him digging through his own personal archive many times over,and George,robert or arty hughes always seemed to find the answers to their questions.

Apai Tuai George...

You opened up a whole world for me when I came here a good 4 years ago. You were never one to hold back your memories, your knowledge. Even in your sunset years your memories were as sharp as ever. I am happy upon your request I was able to convey your well wishes to the veterans of the Sarawak Rangers during their 150th Anniversary Dinner a few years back in Kuching, Sarawak. They were full of appreciation at the fact that 7000 miles away another veteran remembers them, and they only have good wishes for you in return.

Thank you for being the person you were. I am privileged to have known you.

You are amongst your mates now. Be at peaceful rest my dear Apai Tuai George.

I was hoping George would still be around when I joined the Forum a second time but I had this feeling that I would not be so lucky because even at that time when I was first around, George was complaining of rather not well. RIP George. I am missing a friend.

If I may, I would like to add additional info here regards the Iban Trackers and Sarawak Rangers within the period 1948 to 15 September 1963 when they were disbanded as Sarawak Rangers (Far East Land Forces) which was a part of the British Army then.

I have always regretted their disbandment. If Sarawak had insisted on maintaining this illustrious Unit, could it be done? Maybe. If Johor was allowed to maintain their Johor Military Force, why couldn't Sarawak? Perhaps at that time, Sarawak leaders couldn't see it at that time. Reforming the Unit again now is impossible.
