« on: September 07, 2021, 11:19:09 PM »
G'day team,

CWGC's latest research request has the following soldier listed as looking for relatives as they are due to more properly commemorate him within the cemetery.

Are there any sleuths amongst the forum who could help narrow down the search?

Thankfully, Sidney had a single child (daughter) in 1915, Marjorie Beatrice Gladys Day, who had a daughter Brenda Carol Ashby.

So I did a bit of Ancestry work combined with some Facebook stalking and found Brenda Ashby's grand-daughter living in the US.

She quickly replied, but at this stage am not sure if any of the family are in the London area or UK.

Will see what happens!

Dave

Hi Dave,
For some reason CWGC seem to be providing new headstones for men commemorated on a a special memorial screen wall.  Individual headstones are a good solution in my view.
CWCG don't strictly need consent from family members but they do welcome observations from heirs and successors.  As your US contact is a direct relative she should just respond to the consultation and they will be happy to hear from her.   She may even find our what circumstances have changed to vary the physical commemoration.
No need to be in south London.  I will go and have look when the new headstone is in place.
Cheers
Tim

I had this notification as well but have not kept it.

Very often the reason the CWGC give for this is that the remains have recently been identified or burial location confirmed when previously they were unknown.

Per the lists on the CWGC site there are quite a few re-commemorations or new headstones being placed at the same cemetery Cliff.

Be in interesting to understand what has occurred to make it possible.

Cheers,

Dave

It would Dave. If I remember correctly there were something like 27 pages with 5 or 6 names per page.
