L/Cpl 251240 William Parsons
« on: February 02, 2020, 09:23:35 AM »
L/Cpl Parsons had been a Stonemason before he enlisted.  He served in 3/6th  Reserve Bttn.  No medal records have been identified for overseas service.
William died at his home, from Pneumonia & Cardiac Failure on 26/7/1917, aged 42. His condition was aggravated by active service.  William may have still been serving at the time of his death, although he is still entitled to commemoration if he died after discharge, as he died as a result of service.
William was buried at Pendleton, St Thomas on 30/7/1917. Reg Chorlton Q3 1917 8c/709
Widow Gertrude Mary, 8 Mary St, Hulme. Pension award and £5 War Gratuity. She died in Q1 1919. 4 Children. Lavinia Gertrude (B 1903), Beatrice Mary (1906), Robert Ethelbert (1912) and Sidney William (24/9/1915-20/5/1918.  The pension transferred to a Guardian after Gertrude died, Minnie Baker c/o Mrs F McFarlane, Francis St, Belmont, Aus.
Commemorated on Walsall Roll of Honour and Walsall Town Hall Memorial Plaques.

Case found by GWF.  Graeme will take the case forward.

We have William Parsons burial record at Pendleton, St Thomas, but this doesn't specify the plot number.  We don't have a record of the HEadstone either.

Thanks Mack,
There are 5 CWGC commemorations at St Thomas'. Four Great War commemoration are on a Special Memorial and one 2nd War with a Grave.  Here's a link to the Special Memorial https://salfordwarmemorials.proboards.com/thread/1517/st-thomas-pendleton
Even if we identified the plot for William Parsons, a new headstone may not be the best solution for the church and CWGC.  I'd be happy seeing William's name on the Special Memorial below Pte William Hicks of 18th Bttn.
