Pte 3579 Herbert Mitchell – 1/7th Bn

Tim Bell

Herbert Mitchell enlisted on 17/04/1915 and served overseas with 1/7th Bn after 1915. He was discharged sick from 3/9th Bn, with a SWB on 18/07/1916. Herbert received a pension for Tubercle of Lung due to service and 100% disablement (WFA Card). Born 1893. 52 Egerton Street, Ashton.
Herbert died on 21/12/1920, aged 29. No evident Effects or Dependents Pension. He is buried in Dukinfield Cemetery with legible inscription but unidentified plot with his parents William and Margaret Mitchell.

Herbert died from acute pulmonary TB at his parents' home.  Reported by his brother in law, Albert Prescott.  Smallwears salesman. Army Pensioner.

Herbert Mitchell's plot at Dukinfield was accepted as a War Grave today. As the private memorial has a legible inscription commemoration is now complete.
