hiya johnno.
these are great pictures,i think the medal, could be from the sports day events at heaton park.
the cross symbol on the board,in the first photo,is something to do with these events, three of the other men, seem to have one as well.

is it ok,if we put the pictures in our photo gallery,if anyone should want copies, they must ask you for permission.

Hi Mack. Thanks for the info, you're welcome to post the photos in the gallery. The uniforms they are wearing, are they what we used to call "No 1 dress" used only for ceremonial occasions, and you had to sign for them from the Bnt QM. Tonyrod thanks for the info regarding his medals I will let his neice know.

The blue uniforms were certainly not the equivalent of No 1 dress.  They were issued as a stop gap whilst khaki uniforms were being manufactured.  They came from some large existing stocks and whilst they were popular in the early stages their popularity quickly disappeared as the men of the Pals Battalions were constantly teased about their "tramguards" uniforms.  Khaki uniforms were issued to nearly everyone in the Pals by February 1915 and were then reserved for walking out and ceremonial parades.

i have got to agree with robert, those are the original blues as first issued

interestingly you can see by the chalk on the wall that they have been billeted at that house

the 21st (6th city) were at morecombe i believe
