Pte 6926 Fred Bell
Pte Bell had been a Mechanic and serving in 4th VB (from 7/8/1901), when he enlisted on 23/9/1901. He served at Home with 4th Bttn and was posted to 2nd Bttn on 15/11/1906. He re-engaged in the Reserve for a further 4 years on 23/9/1913. Fred was mobilised on 5/8/1914, posted to 3rd Bttn and served in BEF with 2nd Bttn from 19/9/1914. He was admitted to Hosp in France with Asthma on 11/12/1914. Fred was posted Home to Depot on 4/1/1915 and 3rd Bttn on 20/2/1915, prior to Depot on 8/9/1915. Fred was treated in Mill Hosp in Cork from 11/11/1915. He had Nephritis and Asthma.
Fred was discharged with a pension on on 18/12/1915. 2 Blackwell Lane, Old Youghal Road, Off Barrackton, Cork. The Pension record states that Fred’s asthma had been aggravated by active service.
Fred died at home in Cork, from Asthma and Pneumonia on 27/7/1916. He is buried in Rathcooney Cemetery, Co Cork on 30/7/1916. DC confirms cause of death.
