Pte Thompson (b 1871) enlisted in the S Lancs on 7/9/1914 and trained with 11th (St Helens) Bttn. He had been an apprentice with Pilkingtons Glass. He has the longest disciplinary record I’ve seen – generally for Absences. John was transferred to 21st Reserve Bttn of KLR on 25/8/1915 and later 1st GB of Manchesters, disemb Bombay on 17/3/1916. He arrived back Home on 12/6/1917 and was posted back to 3rd Bttn on 17/7/1917.
John was discharged from 3rd Bttn on 25/10/1917, with Arterio Sclerosis (Attrib) and Malaria (Attrib).
John died from Malaria and Broncho Pneumonia on 24/1/1921, aged 51. Reg Prescot Q1 1921 8d/802.
