Joseph Bland died from chronic nephritis at 32 Tatton St, Ashton. A blind maker. His widow was present.

Fought with Determination: Private Joe Bland, of the Manchester Regt, who took part in the engagement at Le Cateau, and was wounded, has been over in Ashton from Nettley Hospital on a visit to his parents in Wickersgate, Ashton. He walks with a slight limp, but is getting fit again, and expects to be off again at any moment. He is not inclined to dwell too much on his experiences out in France, but he is quite sure that the 'Manchesters' have never fought with such determination as they did in the early encounter with the Germans.

The DC confirms Joe died from sub-acute nephritis.  His Medical Board found the condition was not attributable to service but DGAMS found that nephritis wa due to active service for pension purposes.  IFCP advise the contradiction will not support commemoration so I've made direct application to CWGC to see if they accept the Director General's decision.

Joseph Bland was accepted for commemoration today. This case is worth reviewing for evidence PaulC. Not IFCP & contradictory attributable. I don't have my laptop on my travels.
