Pte 2362 Ernest Codd

Pte Codd enlisted in 3rd Bttn on 10th August 1914. He had previously served in the KRR, 4478 1902-05 and discharged from Reserve in June 1914.  Ernest was posted to 1st Bttn on 26/1/1915. Serving with BEF to 10/12/1915, 1st Bttn then moved to Mesopotamia.  Ernest had a bayonet wound to L thigh at Ypres on 26/4/1915 and shrapnel wound in Mespoatania. He returned Home on 6/9/1915 and was admitted to Southwark Mil Hosp.
Ernest was discharged unfit on 9/10/1916. He had TB attributed to service.  The TB was still present in 11/1918.
Ernest died from disease n/k on 10/4/1919, aged 40. Reg Barnsley Q2 1919 9c/221.
Son of Benjamin & Annie Codd, 9 Wall St, Barnsley.  Annie received a Pension.
Breaking all my rules, I've applied for a DC because Ernest clearly died from TB and deserves recognition. DC Ordered.

We need the burial record for Ernest Codd's plot at Barnsley Cemetery. Then see if there is a Headstone and review inscription.

Ernest Codd's commemoration in the UKBOR was accepted today.  In due course his burial at Barnsley Cemetery should be accepted as a War Grave, when we find the burial register.  I don't know whether there is a private memorial on the plot.

Ernest Codd's burial has been accepted at Barnsley Cemetery. As CWGC does not say they're producing a new headstone, I suspect there must be a legible private memorial.
