Pte 25184 Harry Ernest Hayles

Tim Bell

Pte Hayles (born 1887) had been a Postman when he Attested under the Derby Scheme on 8/12/1915. He was Mobilised 23/6/1916 and trained with 25th Bttn before transfer to 3rd Bttn on 29/8/1916. He disembarked with BEF on 12/11/1916 and joined 2nd Bttn on 14/11/1916.
Posted Home on 12/2/1917, Harry was discharged due to sickness on 15/5/1917, with SWB & pension.  He had been treated for TB at Middlesex War Hospital At Napsbury and transferred to Baguley Sanatorium after discharge in May 1917. There is no evidence to say this was comm agg or att to service.
Harry died from Pulmonary TB on 25/2/1920. He was buried in H/1193 Southern Cemetery on 1/3/1920.
Widow Ethel, with 3 children born 1912-1915. 6 Seddon St, Longden Rd, Longsight. She received a Pension, which shows death was as consequence of service, but it isn't sufficient evidence. HOLD*
