Pte 4840 / 376870 Samuel Barnes DCM MM

Pte Barnes (Born 1889) enlisted on 11/12/1915. He served overseas after 1915 with 2/10th Bttn and subsequently 1/10th Bttn.  He was awarded the Military Medal (London Gazette 14/1/1918) and Distinguished Conduct Medal with 2/10th Bttn.  The DCM Citation was published in the London Gazette of 17/4/1918, stating;-
"13697 Pte. S. BARNES (Oldham)
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a stretcher-bearer.  On one occasion he was for several hours under continuous rifle and machine-gun fire, searching for two men who had been lost on a patrol."
Samuel was discharged sick from Depot, with SWB & pension on 31/7/1919, aged 29. Samuel had VDH (Valvular Heart Disease) attributed to service, with 40% disability. He received an additional pension award of 6d for his DCM. Samuel was posted Home and served with 8th Reserve Bttn and Royal Defence Corps, 88299, before returning to 3rd Manchesters prior to discharge.
Samuel died at his parents home from Valvular Disease of Heart & Dropsy on 15/8/1921, aged 32. Reg Oldham Q3 1921 8d/535. Buried Oldham (Chadderton) Cemetery E3.123.
Son of Mary Ellen and Samuel James Barnes of 17 Ripon Street, Oldham. Samuel Jnr had been a Cotton Mule Spinner.   Samuel had two younger brothers, William & Harold and a sister, Elsie.

the burial record you posted,is for his parents grave,his brother Harold is buried in the grave,no sign of Samuel,unless theres a grave register error

Ancestry shows a register as E3.123.  What are we missing?

We need to see if Samuel Barnes has a headstone at Chadderton and review any inscription.

Samuel Barnes was added to CWGC's roll in the UKBOR today.  PaulC has a photo confirming that Samuel will need a new headstone on unmarked plot.
CWGC are still omitting Age and Next of Kin from new commemorations.  In this instance they've also omitted the DCM & MM Awards.  This is not acceptable.
