L/Cpl 34298 James Gowrie

Tim Bell

Pte served overseas with 16th Bttn after 1916.  He was discharged with Mitral (Heart Valve) Disease and Rheumatism on 27/3/1916.  James died from disease (cause unknown) on 5/10/1920.  His Mother, Mrs J Gowrie received a Pension, 1 Hassop St, Beswick.

can you check the discharge date 27-3-16,james was wounded on 31-7-17 and then suffered a shrapnel wound in the head and captured at manchester hill

Hi Mack,
The card for the disability pension for Mitral Disease and Rheumatism clearly states "27-3-16" as the date of discharge. No comment on attrib or aggravated.
Either the transcription on the card is wrong (quite a few dates are wrong on the WFA cards), or perhaps James re-enlisted but then he wouldn't have kept the same number?
