William enlisted in 20th Bttn on 16/11/1914, aged 33y 3m. He had previously served in 6th (Territorial) Bttn and had been employed as a gardener.  He teained with 12 Pln, C Coy and went overseas with 20th Bttn on 9/11/1915 and returned Home on 5/2/1919 (SR).
William was transferred to Reserve 4/3/1919 and received a Pension for VDH (Valvular Disease of the Heart).  The Pension Card doesn't confirm the VDH was attributable to his service, although his 4 ½ years service and receipt of the Pension would suggest this was the case.
William died of Mitral (Heart Valve) Disease on 6/8/1920, aged 40.  His death was registered in Manchester Q3 1920, Volume 8d Page 153. William is buried in Southern Cemetery, Consecrated Plot 1831.
William's wife Clara received a Widows Pension and Death Penny.  The couple had married at the Church of the Ascension, Broughton on 9th October 1915.  They had one son Leslie Hunt, born 25/8/1919.  21 Fildes St, Collyhurst.
As there is no strict proof William's heart disease related to service, IFCP say the commemoration will not be accepted.
